kindergarten

Brooke said to me yesterday "Mom, I feel like a kindergartner"

I said "you do?"

She answered "Yea, but it feels weird."

yet again

Yesterday Brooke and I ran to Walmart. We were walkingdown the aisle and someone had dropped a glass of soy sauce and it broke all over the floor. There was an employee there waiting for a mop so we went around it and continued on.

All the sudden Brooke said "Mom, do you have oxyclean at home?"

I said "yes (I don't really) why?"

She answered "Oh, I just saw it on a commercial."

Ugh! My children and commercials.

"I love you"

Today Brooke and I were in the van and I sang her the Barney Theme Song, you know, "I love you, You love me, blah, blah.."

Anyways at the end I said "I love you Brookie."

Her response you ask? You'd think she'd say "I love you too Mommy"

But no, not my daughter she answered "Well, you're mean alot."

I thought about just letting it go but then I decided to inquire as to when I am mean. She was honest, she said that I'm mean when she does bad things.

Thats my girl!

Date night

So. The other night Hunter and I had a date night. The plan was to go to Build-a-Bear so he could buy a stuffed dog he had been saving his money for then go eat then go play games at Chuck E Cheese.

As a side note, we went to Zona Rosa (for you out of towners, its an out door shopping area) but for some reason Hunter thought it was.. well, I don't really know what he thought it was but he called the whole place (meaning all of Zona) Build-a-Bear World. Now he refers to it as that. Kinda weird, not sure why he doesn't understand that Build-a-Bear is just a store. I didn't have the heart to explain it to him.

Anyways, so as we were trying to find a spot to park I was saying something about our date. Hunter piped up and said "Ok Mom, but can you not say that out loud because people might hear you." I was shocked, and a little crushed. He isn't old enough yet to not want to go on dates w/ me.

Later while we were eating dinner though, Hunter said "This has been a pretty fun date." :)

He did also point out that him and Daddy can't go on dates, they can only go to dinner together, same w/ me and Brooke. Glad thats clear I guess.

oh yea

Oh yea, if you are around brooke and she wants to give you a kiss. Make sure its on the cheek. She has started this thing where she kisses us on the lips but its not a quick peck. She holds ya there a few seconds. She even turns her head and moves it some.

I asked her where she learned that and she said "On the Little Mermaid."

So Disney is teaching my daughter to make out. Great.

My little runner

Friday night Nick, Hunter, Brooke and I went to the dirt track races w/ some friends.

At intermission they called all the kids onto the track and were having 20 yrds or so running races by age group.

4 and under went first so Brooke was up. On go, she took off and to my surprise took the lead (there was 7 or 8 kids, not alot). One little boy was close to her and kept putting his arm out trying to stop her (lets be honest, hes lucky she didn't turn around and knock him down) but he couldn't get her and she won the race.

It was cool. They gave her a trophy that said "0-4 First Place July 2010 Butler Motor Speedway." She was so excited.

Hunte raced in the 7-8 age category. He got 3rd, which was good because he was in la-la land when they said go, so he got a late start and was running barefoot. He was happy though. the racecar he was rooting for got 3rd so Hunter thought that was cool

Money

Last spring we started giving our kids an allowance for doing certain chores. Then they have 3 banks. One for spending money, one for saving and one for giving. Most of the money goes into spending but about 10% goes into each saving and giving.

Hunter has not ever said anything about it. Brooke on the other hand has thrown a fit since day 1 about putting money in giving and saving. She wants it all to spend.

Over the summer we got out of practice of doing chores and getting an allowance. So I started it again this past week. Sunday is pay day and it worked out well because Brooke came home from church w/ a small bank to collect money in and bring back to church.

Brooke however on the way home said that she was putting spending money in the bank. I ignored her for the time being.

Later in the afternoon I added up the kids chores and told them it was time to get their allowance. As we were walking upstairs (so that I can supervise them putting the money in the correct places) Brooke went in to a full on fit. I couldn't understand what she was saying. Then all of a sudden she yelled "I don't want to give any money to God!"

HHmmm... I'm am out of words. Not sure how to follow that up. :)

graveyard

We all went to the lake w/ friends last week. It was so much fun. Both kids swam in the lake and we caught lots of fish. Plus, just relaxing was so nice.

Behind the house was a cemetery. Scott heard (I'm assuming from Greg) that there were some headstones from the 1800s in it. So, of course, Scott wanted to go look. I try to stay out of cemeteries so I politely declined. Brooke stepped up to the task (was there any doubt).

When Scott and Brooke were walking up to it Scott saw the fence and said "I wonder how you get in there."

Brooke answered in true Brooke form "I think you have to get dead first to get in it."

That's my girl :)

Disney

I have got to be better at updating this.

Here are a couple stories from Disney though.

One afternoon we were seeing a show at Epcot. Brooke was worn out and at the very beginning of the show she fell asleep on my lap. All the sudden I heard a sound like water rushing and felt my lap and leg getting wet. Nick even leaned over and asked what that noise was. Yep, Brooke was so asleep that she was peeing. And let me tell you, her bladder was full. She soaked me, the seat and the floor. So I had to sit there, peed on, w/ a 4yo in wet clothes on my lap. Then when the show was over I had to stand up and be followed out by strangers. I'm sure it looked like I had peed myself. Oh, and of course, I had brought a change of clothes for Brooke but not myself. I did get to go to the bathroom and rinse off my shorts but later that night I was standing close to Nick and he asked what that smell was. Scott and Nick thought got a good laugh but it was only funny because it was me.

Another day we were seeing a show where Crush from Nemo talks to the audience. I'm not sure how it works but he picks kids from the audience to ask questions. Hunter had his hand up and got chosen. When the worker w/ the microphone got to him and Crush asked what his question was, Hunter paused and then said "I don't remember." It was funny, everyone in the audience chuckled. A few minutes later Crush called on Brooke. Scott and I knew this was probably a bad idea. When the microphone got to her she says "Umm, I love Hunter." Everyone got a huge laugh from that. Scott and I were beat red. It was funny though (maybe that was one of those you needed to be there for)

wow. its been a while

Wow. I have not posted in quite some time. Its not because life has gotten boring, life has just been super busy and crazy.

Both kids had some good one liners yesterday so I thought I would share them.

Last night Brooke was mad at me bacause I was making her go to bed early. She was crying and looked at me and said "Pretend you have to go to work and leave". Gee, thanks.

Now remember, Hunter is my infomercial child. He is constantly telling me how products will improve my life. We were watching tv last night and a commercial for pro active came on. He got all excited and told me I need proactive because look how good it worked onthat girl. I told him my skin was fine and he said "what about that?" and pointed to the one blemish on my face. I was like thanks Hunter.

That was almost as bad as the time he told me I had a fat belly.

I guess thats the great thing about kids, they shoot stright with you.

good enough

Today Brooke and I were picking Hunter up from school. Sometimes we get out of the van and walk up to the crosswalk. So today when Brooke asked if we could get out I said no. I was still in pajamas, had my hair in a pony tail w/ a headband on and no make up.

When Brooke asked why we couldn't get out. I said "Look at me, is this pretty?"

She said "well, pretty enough."

Uhhh... thanks, I think,

God

(Sorry. I know its been a while)

So we are thinking about selling our house and buying this one we found on 14 acres. At bedtime Hunter and I were talking about moving and he was saying he wanted to move (which is different than 2 hrs ago). I told him that God knows whats best for our family so we need to ask God that whatever is best for our family happens.

Hunter said "Like, one time Gigi (my mom) lost her keys and she asked God to put them somewhere where she could find them. Then He did."

I said "yea, kinda like that"

Hunter said "So I do that at school. When I can't find my little brownie I ask God to put it someplace I can find it and He does."

As scared as I was, I sucked it up and asked him what his little brownie was.

His answer? Its his little brown crayon. Apparently hes used (or broke) it down to practically nothing and it gets lost easily. Even God cares about the little things I guess,

soccer

Brooke is practicing w/ Hunter's soccer team. At practice last night they were scrimmaging. Brooke was trying hard but had a hard time keeping up w/ them. His coach was playing too and every time he got the ball Brooke would run up and try to get it from him.

One point the coach got the ball and Brooke ran right up and just latched onto his leg.

It was hilarious. All the parents started laughing. Thats my girl. If you can't keep up just find another way.

fruit snacks in bed

Hunter was whining at bedtime the other night (big shocker, I know). He was hungry and wanted a snack. I usually say no but he had practiced hard at soccer and hadn't eaten very much. I told him I would bring some fruit snacks up to him when I came upstairs.

It took me a while and when I took them up he was already asleep so I just put them on his pillow. Then the next night Scott and I were putting him to bed and he handed me the empty wrapper. I laughed and asked him when he ate them.

"I woke up in the middle of the night and was hungry so I ate them."

The good news from that is that he woke up in the middle of the night was awake long enough to eat the fruit snacks and still went back to sleep in his own bed. :)

crying

Wow. Its been a while. I guess life has been pretty boring.

Last week Scott, the kids and I were at Price Chopper. As we were leavig I checked the red Box to see if New Moon was available. It was, so I rented it. Hunter started whining that he wanted a movie. We told him no and reminded him that just the day before I had rented him one on Pay per View.

He was being a baby about it and in the can Scott said that it was my turn because Scott had gotten one a couple days before then Hunter so now it was my turn. I said "yea, now we've all gotten movies except Brooke."

Then Scott said "yea, if anyone should be crying its Brooke," the nhe looked at Brooke and said "Are you gonna cry?"

Brooke's answer????

"Not yet but I'm about to." Then she started crying. It was kinda fake tears but funny all the same.

van

Last week I had a rental car because my van was in the shop. Friday I took Brooke to my moms in the rental then went and picked up my van. I then worked all day Saturday and Saturday night. When I woke up Sunday afternoon Scott and I took Brooke and Hunter to a birthday party then went to run some errands (all in the van). We then went to eat. Brooke and I were walking out to the van after we ate and she stopped dead in her tracks.

She yelled "Mom, I didn't know you got your van back!" We had been driving around in it all afternoon and she apparently just realized it.

Scott says she gets that from me. :)

WalMart

I've been going to Walmart more because it really is cheaper. I hate it but I go to save money.

I realized tonight while Brooke and I were there that we are starting to fit in.

Brooke was wearing a pink shirt and pants that did not match and her hair had been in a pony tale but was falling out so it was very messy. You know, part of it was out of the rubber band and part of it was still in it.

Lovely.

God

Tonight Brooke and I were walking out of WalMart and out of the blue Brooke said "How come God is too busy to talk to me?" (I'm guessing the thought entered her head because she was thinking how many people in Walmart need God).

I told her God does talk to us. Sometimes we can hear him but usually he talks to us in our hearts. We argued for a couple minutes about whether or not God talks to us. Since I was getting no where and she kept saying God was too busy. I asked her what God was busy doing.

Her answer?

"Building a house for Jesus."

Not really sure how to argue w/ that. So I just asked her what she wanted God to talk to her about.

"How I can get more money" she says.

That pretty much ended the conversation.

Hate

Tonight Brooke was getting in trouble for not going to bed good. I told her to get back upstairs and as she was walking away I heard her say "I hate." She had caught herself and didn't finish but I told her to get back down anyways.

I asked her what she was about to say and she started some story about talking about the letter H, "like in Hunter's name." I asked if she was going to say I hate you and in true Brooklyn form (aka lying) she said "no, I was saying 'H', really I was."

I'm not sure what to be more pissed off about, her telling me she hates me or her being able to lie so well.

uuumm...

Ummm.... We found Hunter asleep w/ his hand down his pants tonight.

Took a picture but didn't really feel right posting it.

Ugh, boys.....

reading, or singing, whatever

Brooke wants to read. She desperately wants to learn but just isn't getting it yet (duh, cuz shes 3).

So what does she do? She just makes it up.

Her new favorite song is Little Bunny Foo Foo (call, I will sing it to you) so she found one of her books about bunnies (its actually called Guess How Much I Love You)so the last few nights she has gotten that book and sang Little Bunny Foo Foo while she looks at the book.

But here is the funny part. She puts her finger at each word like Hunter does as he reads. And if she forgets a word in the song she will point to a word in the book and say she can't figure out that word. Sometimes she will even sound out the words from the song as she drags her finger under a word. Its hilarious!

It takes forever to get through the book/song but it definitely keeps us laughing.

iphone

Scott has an iphone.

Occasionally he lets Brooke play w/ it to keep her entertained.

Well, she now has the phone figured out.

Brooke can pick it up, unlock the screen and maneuver her way to either the games or the camera.

If she goes to games, she can pick out the one she wants. She also knows how to exit out of that game and pick a new one.
me
If she goes to the camera, watch out cuz she takes picture after picture. Here's the kicker... Brooke also figured out how to delete the pictures. Which is nice because she will delete most of the ones she takes.

My 3yo can work a cell phone better than me. Nice.

mean

Brooke- "Mommy, I don't like your mean voice."

Me- "Really, because it doesn't really seem to have any effect on you what so ever."

diaper

So Brooke still sleeps in diapers at night, and most of the time she pees ALOT.

Today I was separating laundry and as I was pulling clothes out of her basket and they smelled like pee. I was confused because she hasn't peed in her pants in a while.

Then....
I got to the bottom of the basket and found a peed in diaper.

Apparently she had woke up one morning and taken it off then decided to just toss it in there.

I haven't done laundry in over a week and it was at the bottom. So just imagine the smell...

Good times.

She does always put a smile on my face

My kids are driving me CRAZY today. They have been fighting and throwing fits all day. Even in all that Brooke is laugh out loud funny sometimes.

I was loading the dishwasher and I went to put the crock pot in and it slipped out of my hands. It made a pretty loud crash.

Brooke walked up to me and said "Mom, I think your suppose to put that in there, not throw it in."

Yea Brooke, got that, thanks.

We were all doubled over laughing.

Laundry

I came upstairs last night and Hunter was out in the hall (no big surprise there) and he was staring at the washer. I asked him what he was doing and he said waiting for the washer to be done.

I had to stand there and think for a minute because I didn't remember putting clothes in the washer. I asked him about it and he went on to tell me that he got dirty clothes out of my closet and started a load of laundry. i asked about putting the detergent in and he said he forgot. That was ok, cuz I have a front loader and putting detergent in can be messy.

I told him to go back to bed cuz their was still alot of time left. He went back to bed and I went to work out.

After 45min of working out I walked back by the laundry. Hunter's laundry basket was out of his room and he was still awake. I asked him and he said the washer finished so he put them in the dryer and put clothes from his closet in the washer.

This time- he used detergent.

Great, I'm having to have a discussion w/ my 6yo about not doing laundry on his own.

Brooke the cat

Brooke is a kitten. All the time, no really all the time.

She has decided that she is a cat. Most of the time she only responds if you talk to her like a kitten. She pretty much crawls everywhere. When we take her to school or church we have to tell her she can't be a cat, she has to be Brooke. Its ended up requiring "Kitty, pretend to be Brooke while you are in church."

Ashly babysat the other night while Scott and i went out and when we came home she even commented about Brooke being a cat all night.

It was cute at first...

Oh and she meows at us then we have to touch her neck and then she will use words.

again

This one will be short because the picture really says it all.

I went up tonight to check on Hunter in bed and he was asleep...

BUT he had taped 2 nerf darts to his chin.

Really, what more is there to say?

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

only you

Hunter truly believes that Smokey the Bear is pointing at him on all the commercials that are on.

Everytime Smokey says "Only you can prevent wildfires" and points, Hunter gets all excited and says "He pointed at me mom!"

Silly kid.

backwards

Does it seem backwards that I have to have a talk w/ Brooke about how she needs to be nice to her brother and thats its not nice to pick on him.

Shouldn't it be the older child that is mean to the younger one?

Sunday, January 10, 2010

phone call

So, tonight Scott and I were talking on the phone. I heard a click then we got disconnected.

The next thing I heard was music, which I thought was strange. Then i heard a little kid talking.

I was like "hello"

The tiny voice said "you called me and the phone rang. I have the phone in my room."

I got suspicious and said "who is this?"

The voice said "Its Brookie. Mommy, I'm not tired, I don't want to go to sleep."

I still don't know what happened to my call w/ Scott but leave it to Brooke to add the twist.

time out

So, the other day Brooke threw a flashlight at Hunter and hit him in the head. I sent her to time out and of course she went into meltdown mode.

She did go sit on the stairs (that is where we do time out) but was screaming and yelling the whole time. I was ignoring her as she yelled that she wasn't gonna play w/ us anymore ever again.

All the sudden she walked down the stairs and peaked around the corner. She says to me "I'm not staying here forever!" and turned around and went back to time out.

Truthfully, I'm not sure if she meant she wasn't staying in time out forever or our house forever. :)
